Upcoming Volunteer Activities
By becoming a
Couchiching Conservancy Volunteer you can take pride in knowing that you are contributing directly to the protection and preservation of nature in your own area. As a volunteer, you can play a hands-on role in a wide range of Conservancy projects - visiting properties as part of a team, building community support, and educating others about conserving nature.
The Conservancy owns and/or manages several properties in the Couchiching-Severn area with new ones being added every year. This has been accomplished solely through the efforts of a dedicated board, members and individuals in the community - all of whom are volunteers! Volunteers are the key to the operation and success of the Couchiching Conservancy.
While the Conservancy continues to grow in numbers and responsibilities, we are continually looking for new volunteers to assist us in our various activities.
Listed below are descriptions of some of the ways you can get involved with the Conservancy. If you'd like to voluteer, please fill in the form below and submit. We'll be in touch!
Land Management Teams
The Couchiching Conservancy presently owns and/or manages several properties. In 1998, the Conservancy established the Volunteer Property Management Teams Program. Teams of four to five people monitor a property for the Conservancy under the direction of a Board member. These volunteers undertake site inspections on the properties four times a year. During the site inspections, they look for inappropriate uses, natural disturbances, encroachments by adjacent landoweners, as well as other management issues related to the property. They also get to enjoy learning more about the local plant and wildlife species. As the Conservancy acquires new properties, new Volunteer Property Management Teams are established.
Media Relations
In order for The Couchiching Conservancy to meet its goals, it is important that our message be heard. To date we have achieved this through our newsletters, newspaper articles, special events and word of mouth. If you have media and communication skills, we could use your help in getting the word out.
Membership Development
The strength of The Couchiching Conservancy lies in its members. Recruiting new and talented members is vital to ensuring the Conservancy meets its goals and the needs of the community. Assistance is needed in maintaining our existing members as well as recruiting new ones.
Special Events
The Conservancy increases public awareness of our goals and activities through attendance at local fall fairs and other community gatherings throughout the year. We are always looking for volunteers to assist in setting up our display and spending time in the booth.
Odd Jobs
Often the Conservancy requires a helping hand with odd jobs. If you are interested in helping out on occasion for the Conservancy, please let us know.
